For large hotels, hydropower stations, commercial plazas and exhibition halls, standard-sized fire-rated doors often fail to meet installation requirements, so oversized fire-rated doors are widely adopted at present. The dimensions listed as the primary model on the inspection report must cover corresponding sub-models, so that products of matching sizes can be manufactured. So what are the dimensions of oversized fire-rated doors?

Definition of Oversized Fire-Rated Doors

An oversized fire-rated door is defined as a fire door with a width over 2.1 meters and a height exceeding 2.3 meters. Manufacturers cannot apply for certification for every possible dimension, as products are customized to match varying opening sizes provided by clients.

Standard Sizes of Oversized Fire-Rated Doors

  1. Relevant authorities have not set fixed mandatory dimensions for oversized fire-rated doors. Their specifications depend on the overall door size, which is generally divided into three ranges:
    • Tier 1: 2.3m to 2.9m
    • Tier 2: 3.0m to 3.9m
    • Tier 3: 4.0m to 5.0m

      Larger door sizes bring higher production difficulty and correspondingly higher costs.
  2. Fire-rated doors within the dimension of 1800mm × 2400mm can be affixed with official fire door labels. Grade B fire doors can reach a total height of 2700mm, with a transom window installed on top to ensure the clear door leaf height stays within 2400mm. Any fire door exceeding 1800mm × 2400mm is classified as a non-standard fire door.

Supplementary Industry Certification Rule

This covers the specifications of oversized fire-rated doors. A common industry certification rule allows a downward size coverage of 30 cm based on the primary model test report.

For example, a test report certified for the model GFM3030 permits production of all sizes 30 cm smaller, including GFM2727, GFM2729, GFM2828, GFM2930, etc.

Two restrictions apply: the finished door cannot exceed the maximum dimension of the primary model (3 meters in this case). Additionally, the door style, fire resistance grade and raw materials must fully conform to the parameters stated on the inspection report.
