Nowadays, many residential communities attach great importance to the material when selecting fire doors. There are numerous national standards governing fire doors, including relevant marking requirements for door frame thickness. The door frame is 1.2 mm thick, and the steel plates on both the front and rear sides of the door leaf are each 0.8 mm thick. Can fire doors be made of stainless steel?

Can fire doors be made of stainless steel?

  1. No, as stainless steel fails to meet the fire resistance requirements for fire doors. Stainless steel is a type of metallic steel that resists corrosion from weakly corrosive media such as air, steam and water, as well as chemically corrosive media including acids, alkalis and salts.
  2. Class A fire doors offer a 1.5-hour fire resistance limit, Class B a 1.0-hour limit, and Class C a 0.5-hour limit. Although ordinary stainless steel doors are constructed from non-combustible materials, their fire resistance duration falls short of 0.9 hours. Security anti-theft doors also cannot satisfy fire door specifications. Critically, standard steel fire doors contain perlite thermal insulation filling inside.
  3. Stainless steel fire doors mostly adopt stainless steel for their door frames and door leaves, whereas standard steel fire doors use galvanized steel sheets. Steel fire doors are fabricated with steel for door frames, door leaf frameworks and face panels. Where filling is installed inside door leaves, non-toxic and harmless fireproof thermal insulation materials are used.
From the above analysis, we can conclude that plain stainless steel alone is unsuitable for manufacturing fire doors. To produce qualified stainless steel fire doors, matching fire-resistant filler materials must be incorporated. Stainless steel fire doors are applicable to various industrial buildings, residential buildings and other sites with stringent fire protection requirements.
